Welcome to the Keith Smith for U.S. House Website
Libertarian Candidate for the NC 11th District in the US House of Representatives

Vote for me!  And I'll tell you why!   The question you have to ask yourself is, "Does your car run better on tire pressure gauges or on gas?"  If it runs better on gas vote for me.  If dropping a couple of tire pressure gauges in the tank helps you get on down the road for a couple of hundred more miles you need to vote for Shuler.  My car runs better on gas.

Your choice is really simple and really easy.  If you are tired of high gas prices and think we need to start doing somethng about it, then you have to logically vote for me.  Shuler has been in office two years and hasn't done a thing to help you.  If you enjoy paying high prices at the gas pump then you really should re-elect Shuler.  See how simple and easy that was?

But there are other issues as well.  To find out about them and where all the candidates stand it is  important that you demand the media such as TV and the newspapers cover my campaign as well as the other two candidates.  Do not allow them to keep from you all the possible viewpoints.

Demand that all the candidates that have gone to the trouble to get on the ballot be given equal coverage.  Do not allow your right to hear all the viewpoints and possible soultions to your problems be kept hidden from you...

Don't let the two big party's make you feel guilty about voting for a third choice.  They act like you owe them your vote.  What if McDonald's or Burger King tried to make you feel guilty if you decided to go with Wendy's or Hardee's or Pizza Hut or KFC or any of a hundred other cafes for a meal.  Your vote should be like your choice of where to eat... your choice and not some guilt driven obligation the way so many candidates try to make you feel if you dare think about another choice.

You have the choice of over 200 channels on certain satellite packages.  You watch what you want to watch.  You don't worry about what others are looking at.  You pick the programs and movies that you want to see.  Let your vote be like your television choices.  Pick who stands for things that matter to you.  You don't care how many look at programs that bore you

So quit caring about how many are for somebody that doesn't speak out about things that concern you.  You have a lot more than 2 stations on your radio.  You listen to what interests you.  I hope you can develop the attitude that you are going to help out and support me and think of it as your personal choice.

You may not always agree with me on every issue, but you'll know that I believe in what I talk about.

If you are satisfied with the way congress is doing things, if you feel the country is on the right track, then you need to send back the same people.

If you aren't satisfied with the way things are going, you need to make a change.

Pick ten issues that are important to you. If we agree on 6 or 7 of them then vote for me.

Nobody agrees on everything.

But if you vote for me, you'll know that you are backing someone that is sincere in what I stand for and doesn't just take a poll to see where the popular stance is..

One thing is for certain...

If you keep on voting for the same two parties, you'll keep on getting the same results.

Here is a chance for you to vote for someone instead of having to choose the lesser of two evils

Dont just stand by on the sidelines.  Get Involved!

This is your chance.  You've always wanted a change in the way things are being done.  Everybody is talking about change.  If you really want change you have to put a new Party in Congress.  You've had a Republican Congress.  You've had a Democrat Congress.  They both spend more than they take in and don't really address your major concerns.

Become informed and decide if you think we ought to be drilling for oil while alternative sources of energy are being developed.  If you think we'll probably be using things such as hydrogen fuel cell cars, propane/natural gas powered cars and to a lesser extent battery powered cars in ten years but we need more access to a secure energy supply till then vote for me.

If you like paying $4.00 a gallon and probably even higher to come, you need to re-elect Shuler.

The question is....

Can you afford two more years of a Democrat Congress?

Look at how gas prices have soared and the housing market has gone kaput!!!

The question you really need to ask yourself each time you fill up is..

Do you want more of the same do-nothing Congress or do you think we most definitely need a change

Important reasons to vote for me...

If Barack Obama is elected you need someone that will consider his positions on a one by one basis and not automatically reject or approve them.

Heath Shuler might give lip service to being independent, but you know in the end he would be a lap dog to the liberal leadership in the House and do as he was told and vote for anything Obama wants.

Mumpower would almost certainly reject anything automatically just because he is a Republican.  But when you consider he would suspend his campaign in the middle of an election you never really know what Carl would do.  He might just get mad and hold his breath till he got his way.

Protect your interests.  I would consider each and every proposal on their merits and do what is best for this district.  If a bill needed a little tweaking or modifying to make it better, I would try to do that.  If it flat out needed to be stopped for the good of the country and this district, I would not hesitate to do that either.

What if McCain is elected?  You still need to vote for me because lets face it,  you just never know what stance he is going to take.  He has flip-flopped on so many issues over time you need somebody that is not going to worry about the image of getting along with the other side or worry about what some weenie European is going to think.

You need to vote for me because I will put you and this district ahead of anything else.  I don't care what the UN thinks of our country as much as what's good for the people that live and work and make this nation go.  Too many times people go off and give speeches trying to get brownie points overseas.

Stop worrying about what others think and do what is best for us.

Here again Shuler will do what he is told to do and Mumpower, well, who knows what Mumpower will do.  You need somebody that will examine the issue and not worry about what his Party leaders tell him to do.

People are always talking how they don't like the direction our government is going.   Don't put up with the way things have always been.  Take control and have a say in the way they will be.

And when the networks don't cover all of the legitimate candidates, ask yourself, would you put up with a TV station or newspaper not covering a woman or Black candidate just because they were a woman or Black.  You see, elections are a two way street.  The candidates can only do so much.  Part of the responsibility of making a change is up to you.  If you want to know all of your available options you have to demand that you be given the information to make an informed decision.  Don't let them pull the old they aren't covering so and so because they aren't viable b/s line on you.  Tell them they might not be viable because they aren't giving them a chance to get their message out.

You must demand that they cover all of the candidates on the ballot.

Do not accept the phony excuse of they aren't viable any longer.

If people have taken the time and trouble and spent the money to get on the ballot... then you deserve to hear what they are offering.  Do not allow your right to hear them be silenced and kept from you.

Thanks for stopping by.  I hope you'll take a look at the rest of the website, think about some of my ideas, and decide that sometimes old habits like voting for the same two parties ought to be changed.  If you don't like the results you can always put them back in power two years from now.

I might make some mistakes along the way, but I promise you this.  I will do my best.  I won't take for granted all the time and trouble people put forth to get the Libertarian Party on the ballot.  I see too many in my Party running campaigns with no intention of trying to win.  The old give a speech about what we stand for kind of campaign might have been OK in the 1980's, but there comes a time when you have to actually try to win.  That is part of what is wrong with the Libertarian Party.  People look at it and see that too many aren't even trying to go for the win.

The public won't take a political party seriously until it quits talking and gets busy about winning.  I've tried to make this point but as usual all the little yap yaps come out of the woodwork.   But that's fine with me.  It only makes me more convinced I'm on the right path.

Join me in this run for the US House.  Be a part of a team that is tired of the same old same old.  Win or Lose we are going for it.  Say no to the old give a great speech kind of campaign.  Say yes to victory.  Say yes to going for the Gold.

Say yes to doing the best that you can.  Win or Lose, that is my promise to you.  I will do my best.  Thanks for stopping by and I hope you will decide that you want to be a part of this team.

Democracy depends on the citizens getting involved.  Come on and join me.   We'll have some fun tweaking the noses of people if we don't accomplish anything else.  But together, we can do so much more.  Sometimes you can accomplish so much more than you ever imagined if you only try.
